to minority business growth and has demonstrated a commitment to minority business development
and the community. The recipient is selected by the FSMSDC’s Minority Business Enterprise Input
Committee.

Advocate of the Year Award

A Champion and Passionate Supporter

This award is given to an individual who has contributed to minority business development. The Advocate of
theYear is visible in the business community and is a strong supporter of the FSMSDC. He or she also actively
seeks to promote the Council’s mission of fostering minority business development.

Cheryl Hawkins, Business Diversity Manager at Tampa International Airport, manages the daily operations
of DBE, Woman Minority Business Enterprise (WMBE) and Airport Concession Disadvantaged Business
Enterprise (ACDBE) programs. She has been a champion and mentor for the Tampa Bay minority business
community for over 20 years. Bonnie Yauilla, Business Diversity Specialist, actively seeks out women- and
minority-owned businesses to introduce them to DBE certification and the benefits of becoming certified.
Hawkins andYauilla were honored by Hillsborough Area Regional Transit (HART) in 2010 with a Certificate
of Excellence. In 2016, the Tampa Bay Community Advocacy Committee honored the diversity department
with an Award of Appreciation for support received during the construction of the airport’s $750 million rental
car center, of which $172.4 million is projected to be paid to more than 145 woman- and minority-owned
businesses.The duo has been commended for their strong contributions to the growth and continued success
of various organizations.
